There are two types of education in Canada : public - which is free, and private - which have to be paid. Both types of education are on a very good level. Children begin their first grade at the age of 6, and when they end their 6 grade, they finish their elementary education. The secondary education is consisted of 5 years of study, but only 4 of them are obligatory. The diploma received after the secondary education does not allow you to apply for a university. However, if you want to continue your studies, you have to go in a college for another 2 or 3 years (the three-year colleges give professional diplomas). After obtaining the college diploma, you can apply in a university. The universities are also two kinds public and private. There are a wide range of disciplines in the universities - profiles in engineering, atomic physics, social sciences, arts, sports etc. A diploma from a Canadian university is recognized all over the world.
In Canada , if someone wants to change his/hers qualification or to study at no matter what age is considered as quite a normal and popular. In the universities here, you can see students form the age of 19 till 50, in some cases even older. Obtaining a higher qualification immediately reflects on your salary with a few thousands dollars in plus to the previous salary.
Furthermore, except in the colleges and in the universities, you can begin additional qualification programs in the newly-created courses for new immigrants of The Ministry of education or The Ministry of Immigrants integration. In most of the cases these prequalification programs are sponsored by the government, and they are free of charge or on minimal prices. If you are willing to study, in Canada you will find for sure the right place for you.
All Canadian provinces offer also free language courses. Moreover, in some of the provinces, the authorities will pay you just because you are studying English or French. In Quebec , for example, you have the right of 10 months course in French for which you will be given 118 $ per week. In Alberta , you can receive additional money if you study English and under some specific circumstances.
In general, the diplomas obtained from other than Canada countries are recognized, but if you want to practice a specific profession, you have to obtain a Canadian license. You can become a Canadian licensed specialist after a few months of training and passing of an exam. Depending on the professions and the provinces, there are different specific requirements.
